Image description:
[The poet tells the story of Narcissus; an example of the avenging power of the god of Love. Echo’s love for Narcissus was so cruelly rejected that she died, broken-hearted. However, first she had prayed to God that Narcissus himself one day would know the pain she had suffered. The god of Love took revenge for the stubbornness and pride shown by Narcissus: he made him fall in love with his own reflection, go mad and die.] In the miniature Narcissus has dismounted from his horse and admires his reflection in the surface of the fountain’s pool. (line 1469)
