Bindings

A small selection of historic book bindings from across the Bodleian Libraries special collections dating from the medieval period to the 20th century. Includes embroidered, jewelled and modern fine bindings.

From the Western collections the images include examples of the work of known binders and embroiderers such as Paul Bonet, Elizabeth I, the Little Gidding Community and Katharine Adams, together with bindings made for owners such as Jean Grolier, George Villiers, Thomas Maioli and Cardinal Thomas Wolsey.
